Saint
Cicilia
Patron of Music St. Cecilia was a Roman martyr of noble rank, she had beauty, grace and innocence. She was keen on arts and had a special talent for music which she could instil with the beauty of her soul. She converted her husband Valeriano to Chritianity and lived with him in chastity. During the persecution against Christians, by Emperor Marco Aurelio, Valeriano and his brother were executed. The time came for Cecilia, to avoid a public execution of a noble girl, they decided to shut her in the bathroom and suffocate her with hot steam. She was there for three days singing the hymns that made her the Patron Saint of music. When she was found still alive, the Emperor ordered to strike her with a sword. St. Cecilia survived three more days and after receiving the Holy Eucharist, she died on November 22nd. |
