The Biblical Meaning of
THE NAME OF MICHAEL
From One Michael to all of the Michael's of the world wide web
Once God was so overwhelmed with love, that the love spilled out and he made  from it the angels.  (In Hebrew it just means (a) being; it Greek, it's (a)  messenger.)  The angels were possessed of all natural knowledge, they knew  all natural things instantly, and could make up their minds instantly, they  never had to weigh this idea against that idea--no "on the other hand" for them.

ICHAEL (Mi' kihl) Name meaning, " Who is like God? "

Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer:
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
God had a favorite angel; he called him Lucifer (light bearer) and one day,  as they were discussing things God mentioned something to his favorite that  made the favorite draw back in shock.  It was a test; no one knows what the test was, the concensus of the early fathers was that one day God would send his son down to (the so far uncreated) earth as a human being.  Lucifer realized that he would have to serve and worship this fallible human being because--in addition to being a human being--he was also God.  The favorite would not even consider demeaning himself to that extent, so he said to God, "No, I will not serve; I will be like God."  As he drew away from God, other angels followed him until one-third of the heavenly court, (a third of each othe choirs) of angels followed him.  It was thought that all would follow him until another angel, one who was so unimportant that he didn't even have a name, cried out, "Who can be like God!"  He and the angels who remained (two-thirds of the court) had a great battle and pushed the wicked ones out of heaven.  To thank him for his faithfulness, God made him the leader of the angels and gave him, as his name, what he had said:  Who can be like God, in Hebrew, is Mi-cha-el
