With these words we begin our redemption. She was
in God’s plan of salvation. She was the vessel of the Lord.
The gospels tell us about different aspects of Mary. Mark portrays
her in terms of discipleship, Matthew places her in the Holy Family. Luke
of her role as virgin, mother of the incarnate God and John points to Mary
as Mother of the Church.
In this Lent we remember Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and we
try to walk, as she did, this journey of faith, to experience God’s love,
asking God that with every challenge, every obstacle, every pain,
our trust in Him can grow, and that we can allow the Holy Spirit to fill
our hearts with love.
How can a mother accept the condemnation of her son?
Crucify Him!
but Mary just wept in silence. And saw her Son take the cross and
fall down. When their eyes met, His full of pain and Hers full of
anguish, she understood the message...’Courage...there is a purpose for
this’. She tried to get closer to Him, but the soldiers prevented her,
and she walked on silently, behind Him. Jesus was stripped of His garments
and He was nailed to the Cross. Every nail was also puncturing Mary’s heart,
and there He was, her beloved Son, waiting for the time to die.
What greater pain for a mother than this? And she wept in
silence, as her Son and the Son of God completed His journey of salvation.
Thank you Jesus!
But Mary also knew that her Son would come back,
that He will rise from the death as He did,
and now was the time for her to rejoice but not in silence anymore.
And there she was in the Upper Room with the Apostles, praying
constantly, making sure that the Apostles didn’t get discouraged.
She was the Mother who took care of them while waiting for the Holy Spirit
to descend on the day of Pentecost. The Father’s plan for her, through
all the years of prayer and openness to the Spirit had prepared her for
this day, in which the Catholic Church was born.
Help us dear Mother to love Jesus as you did, help us to desire to
please the Father as you did, help us to open our hearts to the
Spirit, help us to be humble like you, help us to love and forgive, help
us not to blame God for our struggles, help us to say ‘yes’ to God.
Help us to walk beside Jesus the way of the Cross.
For there is no greater intercession for a Son
than the one of his Mother.
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know,
that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby,
you've kissed the face of God.
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know,
that your baby boy is heaven's perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding,
is the great I AM.
